I can’t stand shoes!
—-
Parents make you wear shoes
Designers make you buy shoes
Society makes you own shoes

But in the end
They just bind your feet

I choose to go barefoot
Utterly defenseless
Against the cool earth.
Utterly in touch with the essence.
My dirty dancing feet.

If you really feel this way join the Society for Barefoot Living. People around the world who help out people who like to go barefoot.
Hah! The world is truly a wondrous place. Something for everyone. Cool site. The poem was mostly metaphoric, but fascinating to learn that this society actually exists!
When I first went to college in the Bronx (when NYU was still there), I went barefoot a lot of the time for almost a semester – even walking the broken bottle streets and taking the subway. After a while, as great as it feels to go barefoot, I wisely gave in to sandals. But there are many other ways to go barefoot in the world.
Thanks for the visit, Jacob!
The title is perfect. I know not how to add to that perfection.
LOL. Thanks. As you know, you were my inspiration. (-;
(The title is in response to a meme challenge from SurfaceEarth to create a six-word memoir. I don’t usually do memes, but since this one was kind of fun, this is my way of answering her call to arms.)
Sweet! Digging my toes into mamma earth with you. Let’s dance! Thanx for the support howl you sent my way, btw. Received loud and clear.
Aaah! Dancing with dirt-kissed toes. The best! Glad my howl was heard and appreciated. If I can ever help in any way or simply share experiences, just let me know.
Meanwhile…let the music rock ‘n roll!
i would love to walk around barefooted….if not for some irresponsible ppl throwing rubbish, glasses, nails here n there.
oh, and i would prefer the soft soil / sand than the concrete that we normally will find everywhere
Hi Alvin! Nice to see you. Agree about the soft soil. Ah…so nice.
On the other hand…or should I say other foot…if we had no shoes and everyone even litterers walked barefoot, then maybe people would stop littering! Wonder what else a world without shoes could mean.
(I ask this in the metaphoric as well as literal sense.)
Your kindness and support are always appreciated, RA! Thank you!
Good point on the littering!
“Utterly in touch with the essence.” Mmmm…I’m sinking my soul, along with my toes, into that.
Ah…barefoot soul dancing. Nothing better.
It is one of my recurrent dreams.
I often dream I am barefoot.
Smart clothes, but no shoes.
Sometimes with socks on.
I still do not know why.
Ah! Interesting. With recurrent dreams like that I always think if I can just figure it out, I will realize something essential and the dreams will stop. But often for me they just morph into some similar but different recurring dream. Would love to know if you ever learn what your barefoot dreams mean.
well said. even when teaching, i wear sandals or go barefoot from april one to november one. i have an aversion to wearing socks and shoes. thanks for liking my posts )
My pleasure. I enjoy my visits to your site, ksbeth. Always something interesting and quite often deliciously quirky.
So nice to find another shoe-aversive person. Sadly I have had to learn to wear shoes and even…gakk…socks on my wintry Brooklyn streets, but oh how happy my bare toes are as the warmer days come to visit!
