Having a nice day and just felt like sharing what flashes through my brain while sitting here hugging my darling kitty Lucie and watching really bad TV.

Lots of talking heads slicing and dicing up political analysis to the point where every candidate begins to resemble Humpty Dumpty – after the fall. Lots of courtroom reality TV with neighbors, (former) friends, and loved ones suing each other and sneering a lot. Are people really this small-minded? Sheesh. And then of course there are the countless commercials telling us about some great new disease or at least some cool symptoms we could get.

Hah! Just look at what those of us who watch TV feed our poor brains during the day. No wonder I haven’t yet figured out how to solve our monetary crisis, bring peace to the world, or even invent a fail-safe cure for indigestion. And no wonder my brain produces so many fleetingly brilliant and then just as quickly forgotten thoughts.

Following up on my last post, here’s Steve Martin as The Jerk talking about all the “stuff” his millions bought before he went broke – and how little he really needs in life.

Tee hee. Of course, maybe we need just a bit more than that. But if you’ve ever seen the film, you know that the people he truly loves – as well as his special thermos – are there for him in the end. And to me, that’s the right stuff.

Seems the Japanese have a clever new way to elude muggers. Known to be at the forefront of product innovation, the Japanese have come up with some truly inspiring ideas to help average people protect themselves from nefarious hoodlums and ne’er-do-wells. Assuming the average person has the spare change to afford some of these pricey gimmicks. (And assuming a modicum of gullibility.)

Still, I have to admire the ingenuity – as well as the chutzpah – to even put these ideas out to the public!

Nothing like a good massage – and a friend who listens!

OK.  This is at least a year old and I actually think I might have seen it when it first came out, but it cracks me up anyway. There are some benefits to not having a perfect memory!

Trivial Pursuits and the FOX Network

OK. So…I’m having this fight with my inner voice (MIV) about what’s important in life and what isn’t.

MIV: I want you to devote your time to things that really matter from now on, ok?

Me: But doesn’t everything matter?

MIV: Like the reality TV show Hell’s Kitchen?

Me: I get a kick out of it.

MIV: But you know that Chef Ramsay is horribly mean to people. Aren’t you ashamed to support something like that?

Me: Well…kinda. But the contestants knew what they were getting into.

MIV: Exploitation? Unfair editing? Challenges that make them look bad despite their many talents? Being screamed at mercilessly?

And the Winner of the Spammy Is…

On a very different note…

OK. We bloggers get spammed all the time. And a lot of the spam is way creepy. (Thank goodness for Akismet.) But you gotta admit, some spam comments can be downright amusing.

So I decided to start giving out Spammy Awards (on an ad hoc basis) for the best comment spam. Who knows? We might even start to see a better quality of spam emerging as spammers throughout the world rise to the challenge of winning their very own coveted Spammy!

Pigeons Kidnapped in New York City!

So someone or many someones are kidnapping pigeons in New York City. Makes me wonder what the ransom could possibly be – and who would want to pay it anyway?

In the July 9 issue of The New Yorker, Lauren Collins discusses this birdnapping crime wave. It seems there really is something strange going on.

Instances of pigeon-napping have been spotted in various areas of Manhattan, with the hot spots, according to Collins, including: Thirteenth Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, Eighty-sixth Street at Third Avenue, and the Roosevelt Island tramway. She also tells of a Greenwich Village sighting that got neighbors riled up enough to notify the police:

I just wrote those words on my cyber-pal Mel’s blog and couldn’t resist posting them. We of the Perfection Hater’s League want to state here and now that anyone reading this who has ever chastised themselves for screwing up and/or not being good enough, needs to stand in front of a mirror and keep repeating these words:
